O presente resumo refere-se a um estudo desenvolvido numa pequena área representativa do Sítio Cabeção (sítio proposto a nível nacional para integrar a rede Natura 2000) durante o período de Outubro de 2000 a Janeiro de 20001. Biogeograficamente, pertence ao Sector Ribatagano-Sadense e encontra-se sob influência do termomediterrâneo superior, sub-húmido, com características marcadamente euoceânicas. Este sítio foi proposto para SIC por apresentar grande originalidade florística e vegetal, destacando-se o endemismo Ribatagano Halimium verticillatum, característico das paleodunas revestidas por matos psamófilos de Halimio verticillati-Sthauracanthetum genistoidis (habitat raro no contexto nacional), bem como de outros habitats prioritários, nomeadamente: *Charcos temporários mediterrânicos (3170), *Charnecas húmidas atlânticas temperadas de Eriça ciliiaris e Eriça tetralix (4020) e *Sub-estepe de gramíneas e anuais da Thero-Brachypodietea (6220). Contudo, o “desenvolvimento” económico conduz muitas vezes à degradação dos habitats e espécies acima referidos. Por isso, como principais objectivos deste trabalho destaca-se a elaboração da cartografia de habitats e espécies vegetais (tabela I) da Directiva 92/43/CEE, assim como a avaliação de algumas das principais ameaças e apresentação das respectivas medidas de gestão e conservação, tendo em vista a preservação e valorização da biodiversidade.”
